Birmingham Central library opening (Video)

I have made a little report about the new library. An opportunity to see it for those that haven´t had the chance to be there yet or are out of Birmingham!

New Library

Today it's the day, finally after years waiting Birmingham's new library has open its doors to all the Birmingham population. This link might help you to discover it before visiting:

Here are some tips of the new building:

- The library has more than 200 public access computers, theatres, an exhibition gallery and music rooms.

- It was officially opened by Malala Yousafzai, the teenager shot in the head in Pakistan by the Taliban for championing women's rights. She was treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and now lives in the city. As part of the opening ceremony, Malala placed her copy of The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho in the library - the last book to go on the shelves. She has been given membership to access the archive. Malala was targeted by the Taliban after campaigning for girls' rights to go to school. It was in part of the country where Islamic fundamentalists were trying to impose a strict form of Sharia law.

- The new building also contains the Shakespeare Memorial Room, home to a collection of 43,000 books, including copies of the Bard's First, Second, Third and Fourth Folio editions.

- It can house 3,000.

- It has nine floors - three of which are out of bounds to the public.

- It has a brown roof garden with wild flower meadow.

The cost of all the process is £189 millions, I hope it's worthy.

I really loved the old library, I spent there so many times, this 70's building is now going to be demolished, as I heard, and all the things surrounding it such The Yarbird, The Conservatoire, The Library Cinema... Let's hope that this doesn't happen or if it happens not just yet.

I have to say that the new library is quite convenient, expensive but convenient.  lets try to make this big spending worthy. Personally I think that they could spent less money and make less design and use some money to create more arts centers or help to new and old initiatives such "What the Doc festival" (starting tomorrow at the Spotted dog) or the Birmingham Film Society, whose are struggling to find just some pounds...

Anyway a new library is always a good new! Lets enjoy it!

Villa Park

Este sábado, estuve en Villa Park viendo un Aston Villa-Málaga muy entretenido. Escribí para el periódico El Northen una crónica del encuentro que puede verse aquí:

Además fui junto a Juan Hernando e hice un post hablado sobre el encuentro, la verdad es que nos trataron de maravilla, hizo una tarde espectacular y lo pasamos muy bien. Lástima no poder hablar con los jugadores al final, pero esto es lo que pasó en Villa Park.

Recuerdo a un gran tipo

La verdad es que yo no me acordaba, pero gracias a Iratxe he recordado que hoy es el sexto aniversario de la desaparición de un gran colega, Jorge, compañero de la universidad, miembro de una kuadrilla irrepetible, Jorge siempre fue alguien diferente, su personalidad creo que se reflejaba en un campo de fútbol... era el mejor, tenía el don y la gracia, el desparpajo y la inteligencia, pero no supo aprovechar estas cualidades... eso sí, entre nosotros dejó una huella imborrable y, aunque no recuerde el día exacto de su muerte, siempre recuerdo anécdotas suyas y con Kike aquí en Birmingham, hemos hablado más de una vez sobre ello, por eso ahora mismo me voy a ir a su casa a tomar una cerveza y brindar por él.
Amigo Jorge, todos y todas te echamos de menos, quizá tus últimos días estuviste un poco solo y eso nos pesa a todos, tu muerte cayó de la peor manera y no me meteré en este blog en si se podría o no haber evitado, sin embargo, sí diré que eras demasiado joven como para caer. Así pues, te mando un abrazo allá donde estés y gracias Iratxe por haberme recordado esta fecha tan emotiva, aunque Jorge Puente siempre estará con cada uno de nosotros.
Un abrazo a Jorge y a todos sus compañeros o los míos, que os echo mucho de menos a todos. Mucho!

Cuando hablaba de que el buen tiempo es algo especial aquí en Birmingham e, imagino, que en toda Inglaterra lo decía por algo... No está siendo el verano mas caluroso que he pasado ni mucho menos, posiblemente, uno de los menos, pero que gusto da que haga buen tiempo casi todos los días, fijate, que ya no me importa quedarme en casa en un día de calor... ya no me quedo con la sensación de estar desaprovechando el día, me gusta!!
Supongo que en la península también esta haciendo calor, pero un calor que no veas, vamos, que todo el mundo está bien caliente, entre desgraciados accidentes y desgraciados en general el panorama está fatal, ayer me puse la TV, el informativo, leí la prensa y miré en foros de opinión para ver lo que decía Rajoy, que patetismo, que vergüenza y no encuentro ningún calificativo peor...pero a todo, incluso a Rubalcaba que, como siempre, comparaba a la gestión de Rajoy con la de Merkel, Cameron, Hollande... deja de mirarlos de abajo arriba y miralos de igual a igual, con ese espiritu de inferioridad no se va a llegar a ningún lado... En fin, que me irrito solo de pensarlo.
El verano aquí en Birmingham está siendo divertido, suelo estar muy liado, pero a su vez me queda tiempo para hacer mis cosas y mirando lo que tenía me he acordado que grabé este video-puntazo en la película de Abba en la que estuve hace un par de semanas en Birmingham, esto es alegría si señor!!!
Últimamente, no sé el porqué, me encuentro como el protagonista de este video...

RIP

Hi all!

I just woke up today with one of the worst news, at least (at this moment) 78 deaths and so many injured people after the train crash that happened yesterday in Santiago de Compostela.
I have just been explained that it has been a human error, because the track on that stretch is not adapted to the train, which is newest... I hope not to hear any more casualties and from here I send all my love to the victims. Not too long time ago a bus driver got asleep somewhere in Spain and crashed the vehicle too, leaving almost 10 deaths... We can blame the drivers I guess, they will be blaming themselves for the rest of their lifes... I don't know, I have to check it again... and follow the investigations.

This is a tragedy... Spain is suffering a lot, very sad times for the Iberian country...
